An opportunity for everyone in town to become aware of Chatham’s history organizations, and our town’s historic riches.

History Weekend Special Events

During History Weekend, some Historic Chatham museums and history centers will be open (at different times and days).
See the Historic Chatham Map page for the locations of the Historic Chatham museums and history centers.
Atwood Museum The Atwood Museum will be open Friday (6/14) and Saturday (6/15) 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, celebrating its new exhibits (see above).
Reduced admission for non-members ($8 for adults; $5 for seniors ; children under 17 free).
Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum The Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum will be open Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, featuring the "The Golden Age of Trans-Atlantic Ocean Liners" exhibit.
Saturday at 9:30 am, Annual Members Meeting at the Chatham Orpheum Theater featuring talk "From Short Waves To Satellites."
Reduced admission for History Weekend: $6 for adults and seniors, and $5 for students 12-18.
Benjamin Godfrey / Chatham Windmill The Benjamin Godfrey / Chatham Windmill will be open for History Weekend on Saturday, June 15th, from 11 AM to 3 PM. The sails will be up and the mill will be grinding corn (weather permitting).
Enjoy a great area for children and picnics.
Eldredge Public Library The Library will follow its regular schedule during History Weekend: open 10 AM to 5 PM Friday & Saturday. A special History Weekend lecture will occur on June 13th at 5pm (see above).
Caleb Nickerson Homestead The Caleb Nickerson Homestead and Colonial Gardens will be open on Saturday June 15 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The homestead will be staffed with a docent.
Lectures will occcur at
  • 11 AM "I Dig It!" A talk by Gary Nickerson on the archaeological excavation of William and Anne Nickerson's c. 1664 homestead and the artifact display.
  • Noon: "Dooryard Garden in a Container." Sonny Gada will plant traditional kitchen herbs and raffle the planted container.
  • 1 to 2:30: Fiber artist Cheryl Flett will demonstrate spinning wool.

Chatham Lighthouse On Saturday and Sunday of History Weekend, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct tours of the Chatham Lighthouse from 1 PM to 3 PM.

Chatham Railroad Museum The Railroad Museum and the restored historic caboose will be open on History Weekend on Friday and Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
The Museum will feature new models of the West Chatham and South Chatham stations.
At 10 am on Saturday, the Museum will offer Chatham Rail Trail cyclists a short briefing on the history and locations of those stations on the Trail and a 1915 timetable.
Mayo House The Historic Mayo House (Chatham Conservation Foundation) will be open for tours on Friday and Saturday 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge On History Weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, The Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge will open the Monomoy Island Lighthouse and Keeper Station for tours from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. (Transportation to Monomoy is not provided).
Chatham Walks There will be a special free “Walking Tour” on Saturday, June 13th, at 10 AM, starting at the Chatham Community Center. See details below.
Note: Admission Special admission prices during History Weekend at The Atwood Museum, and The Marconi-RCA Wireless Museum (see below). For the other Historic Chatham locations, admission is always free. Donations are welcome at many of the locations.
